United Arab Emirates 'best for trade in MENA'
The authorities in United Arab Emirates have done more to help aid international trade than any other government in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, according to a new report.
Research by the World Economic Forum (WEF) placed Hong Kong on top of its Enabling Trade Index a study of the free trade measures in 118 economies around the world.
United Arab Emirates was 23rd in the overall list, with its import tax regime preventing it from finishing higher.
However, it was found to be the best-performing economy in its region and WEF researchers discovered plenty to recommend the federation.
They concluded that United Arab Emirates has a "world-class transport infrastructure, very good infrastructure-related services, and a conducive and secure business environment, characterised in particular by its ease of hiring foreign labour".
An influx of overseas workers has helped to fuel a property boom in Dubai in recent times and a recent report by Colliers International revealed that investors in the emirate had seen the value of houses rise by 78% in the past 12 months.
