Visitor numbers for Turkey 'set to swell in 2007'
The number of foreigners visiting Turkey on holiday is predicted to grow by 8% during 2007, according to president of the Turkish Tourism Investors Foundation.
Oktay Varlier stated that his organisation expects tourist numbers to reach 21.4 million, thanks partly to a "more positive" international economic situation.
Despite the projected tourism growth, Mr Varlier said that more needs to be done to promote specific regions of Turkey rather than selling the country as a whole, as different parts of the country can be sold to different tourist demographics, the Today's Zaman newspaper reports.
"According to the first impressions being related by tour operators this year, Antalya and the Aegean will experience higher levels of success in Western European [tourist] markets than last year," he remarked.
Mr Valier added that a "reduction in tourist satisfaction" is the most dangerous risk to the industry, highlighting the importance of retaining a "delicate balance between price and quality".
Earlier this week, Today's Zaman reported that the number of tourists passing through Antalya grew by 8% in the first three months of 2007, compared to the same period last year.
