Visitors to Italy told to explore Tuscany in more depth
Visitors to Tuscany in Italy have been urged by one travel expert to explore the region in greater depth to get the most from their stay.
Writing for online information provider About.com, Martha Bakerjian - who co-authors the Wandering Italy blog - claimed that smaller villages in Tuscany are often overlooked for the more famous cities like Florence.
She noted that wine villages are worth exploring as they "often attract the best cooks and artisans", with the Chianti Classico region ideal for a wine-tasting excursion.
"Yes, Rome, Florence and Venice are the stars in Italy's vacation line-up, but the villages between can make your holiday sizzle," she remarked.
Ms Bakerjian concluded by talking of the vast diversity of Tuscany, whether in the shape of the towers of San Gimignano, the Etruscan Volterra or the historic hilltop town of Cortona.
Recently, budget carrier easyJet announced new daily flights from London Gatwick to Pisa - one of Tuscany's more famous locations.
