Weather drives Britons abroad
A growing number of people are choosing to spend January overseas, according to experts.
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) stated that the poor weather seen in the UK over the summer had prompted many to go abroad during winter.
Sean Tipton, spokesperson for the organisation, said that some of these people had missed out on a foreign break last year, because the rain prompted an unprecedented rush for last-minute holidays.
He commented: "One way to solve that problem is to book yourself a winter sun break and that's why we think bookings rose quite substantially."
Mr Tipton added that about two-thirds of people were heading for sunny destinations, while the remaining third were opting for places with guaranteed snow.
This comes after ABTA revealed that a record number of Britons headed abroad over the Christmas period.
Figures from the body showed that about 3.5 million people spent the festive season overseas.
