'Weather' leading to overseas enquiries

New research carried out by Barclays has suggested that more UK residents wish to buy properties abroad due to the miserable weather conditions in Britain this summer.

The bank said that enquiries about purchasing overseas property have risen to 18,000 from 9,000 during the studied time period.

Reasons why people wish to move abroad include poor weather conditions, rising crime and higher property prices at home, the bank said.

Commenting, director at Barclays Buying Abroad Richard Exton said that consumers no longer wish to suffer terrible conditions.

"With the terrible weather we have experienced in July and throughout the summer many people are not prepared to sit through a year-long winter and are looking for a getaway to sunnier climates," he said.

Popular countries included France and Spain, the company stated, while there were also enquiries regarding Dubai.

Brits were recently warned to pay their taxes in Alicante by Homes Worldwide.
