World travel and tourism 'to generate $7 trillion in 2007'
The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) predicts a substantial growth in the worldwide tourism market over the next decade.
According to its recent report, tourism across the world is expected to generate $7 trillion this year, and $13 trillion in the next ten years.
The WTTC explains that growth rates are based on a strong level of demand in the tourism industry, with a global increase of around 4.3% each year.
Demand in the United States is the highest in the world, closely followed by Japan.
However, it is the Chinese tourism industry that will experience the highest increase in demand, moving into second position by 2017.
Montenegro, China and India will see tourism demand growing most rapidly as they invest in strategic tourism development.
Guido Haarmann, senior executive, Accenture's Transportation & Travel Service practice said: "Travellers will increasingly lose interest in commodity products."
"Instead, they will demand solutions designed around their needs, and market leaders are perfecting their ability to achieve the right mix of distribution channels ÔÇô such as the Web, agents or catalogues ÔÇô to provide them."
Expert analysts at the WTTC predict that the world tourism market will remain healthy over the next decade, despite increased awareness of carbon footprinting.
