Would-be expats advised to seek professional opinion
Prospective expatriates should get professional advice before moving abroad, an expert has recommended.
Martin Stirling from accountancy firm Grant Thornton said that foreign countries all had different regulations and requirements on issues such as tax, pensions and the transfer of funds.
He stated that since people would be thinking or planning a move for at least several months, it would be sensible to use this time carrying out research on how their finances will be affected.
This, he suggested, should include getting an expert opinion on their chosen market.
Speaking to the Times, Mr Stirling commented: "It is advisable to seek specialist advice as soon as you decide to move."
The advice comes shortly after property specialist Julian King stated that owning and selling a house in the UK was becoming "unnecessarily costly", as values were falling yet there was a lack of buyers at the same time.
This has prompted him to suggest that more and more Britons could opt to move overseas instead.
